Endodontic Retreatment

Retreatment ImageSometimes the initial root canal treatment done by a dentist does not resolve the infection or pain associated with the tooth. Some of the reasons for this include canals which were unable to be treated due to complex canal anatomy, or the placement of the permanent restoration was delayed following the endodontic treatment, allowing germs to re-enter the inside of the tooth. Root Canal Retreatment ImageAlso, if a new cavity invades the root canal treated tooth, the decay can expose the root canal filling material to bacteria, causing a new infection in the tooth. In these instances Dr. Tolwin can re-clean and seal the inside of the tooth with a root canal retreatment procedure. Root Canal Retreatment Image After gaining access to the inside of the tooth, Dr. Tolwin removes all of the old root canal sealing materials and thoroughly cleans the canal system removing all bacteria and residual pulp tissue. The tooth is then resealed and the permanent restoration is completed by your general dentist.Root Canal Retreatment Image
